Atlantis on the Rocks is a collection of ambient material using electric guitar, Fender Rhodes, kalimba, a Syncussion drum machine, and my pedal board. The pedals were literally used as instruments, playing loops, and creating ambient pads and rhythms. Some of the pedals used were the Chase Bliss Blooper, Chase Bliss Mood, Recovery Effects Shortwave, Recovery Effects Cutting Room Floor, Recovery Effects Dirty Murals, Strymon Volante, Strymon Night Sky, Strymon Iridium, Empress Zoia, and Meris Hedra.
This record was tracked and mixed entirely on my Teenage Engineering OP-1, using the 4-track tape feature and on-board mixer. One of the songs, Softer Focus, was reprocessed on my 1950s Revere single-track reel-to-reel tape machine.
The purpose of this record was to create a quiet, reflective space that I enjoyed over the pandemic, while retaining the tension of the strange times we still live in.
